Our Tiny House Trailer on Our Land

A man paused from leveling a tiny house trailer

We finally finished all the utilities, so we could move our tiny house trailer up to our land! It is so wonderful to live here because it has great views and wonderful trails that we’re finally taking time to explore. The nights are really quiet (except for the yipping coyotes!) and dark (except when the moon is full.) We also are relieved to not have to commute an hour each way to work on our house.

My car can tow 5,000 lbs, but our tiny house weighs more than double that, so I rented a pickup truck. I drove the truck and tiny house up to our land and Jon drove the very sad, complaining cats.

We’ve done a few little projects around here, as we’re settling in. I made a simple compost pit like the one my parents had for years. Quite a few neighbors have horses, mules, or burros, so it is easy to roll my wheelbarrow around and collect manure to add to our veggie scraps for the green layers. I raked a few bags of leaves at the trailer park before we left for the first brown layers. Now I’m impatiently waiting for service on our tractor, so I can use the PTO chipper/shredder to make more brown material from brush that we removed around the yard.

I love my dream garbage and recycling bin that Jon is helping make a reality from leftover wood scraps. The roundness and color look very retro to me, which I think goes well with domes.

I lumped up the soil over the RV septic drain line because the line was too shallow for my liking and I didn’t want anything to freeze. I placed some stepping stones to be able to walk over the lump to where I hang our laundry to dry. I also planted daffodil bulbs in the dirt lump and tulips in containers for a pretty spring, whenever that happens.
